This is a fascinating study of the changes of ownership and use of a relatively small area of land, bringing in a myriad of historical anecdotes and an interesting cast of characters. Graham’s research leans heavily on Ontario land registration records sourced from both Onland digital copies and the original copy books. The book provides vignettes about the struggles of hard working settlers, conflicts over land, political infighting and yes, even a dash of vice.
What the early reviewers are saying about The Land at the Crest of the Hill:
“Graham is an excellent researcher and his book was a pleasure to read.” Johanna Abrahamse, author of Dexter D’Everardo: A Chronology of His Life
“Congratulations and thanks for this book, which provides so much new information for past and future students of local history.” Mary Lamb, author of Pelham: The Making of a Community
“Meticulously researched and accessibly written, this history is filled with surprising new discoveries about the land that I called (and still call) my home.” Dr. Anna Lathrop, Professor and former Vice-Provost & Associate Vice-President, Students, Brock University
Print copies of the book are available for $25 at local Fonthill retailers (Shoppers Drug Mart, J&J Florists, Nature’s Corner Cafe (Ridgeville)) and at Alphabet Bookshop in Port Colborne and Someday Books in St. Catharines. A full colour eBook PDF version is available for digital download for $20 through this website.
